Operation Blenheim

An organised crime group that supplied in the region of £100 million worth of Class A drugs

Thirty members of a gang who conspired to traffic millions of pounds of drugs from Merseyside to Scotland have been jailed  for a total of 297 years.

Father and son criminals, Christopher Welsh Snr (55) and Christopher Welsh Jnr (34), were imprisoned for 15 years & four months and 16 years & eight months respectively for masterminding the plot.

Mark Shield, aged 45, from Kirkby, who was also found to be a principal member of the gang was jailed for 14 years & eight months.

Six other members of the gang who are all from Liverpool were also jailed for their role in the conspiracy, said in court to have been worth between £100m and £200m.

They are:

Christopher Amos, aged 28, of Vesuvius Street, L4 - 13 years, four months
James Edmonds, aged 33, of Every Street, L6 - 13 years, four months
David McIver, aged 58, of Dacy Road, L5 - 12 years
Steven Tynan, aged 37, of Abingdon Road, L5 - 12 years
Steven Wood, aged 31, of Orry Street, L7 - 10 years
Brian Woods, aged 51, of Westminster Road, L4 - 12 years

Those others sentences including photos are shown below.

Detective Superintendent Jason Hudson, head of operations at TITAN (North-West Regional Organised Crime Unit), said today's prison sentences should serve as a warning to other criminal gangs operating in the region.

He said: "This gang were responsible for flooding the streets of Glasgow with incredibly dangerous and damaging Class A drugs, profiting from other people's misery in the process.

"The top tier of this gang - the Welshes and Mark Shields - masterminded a massive criminal enterprise which helped them live the kind of comfortable lives most people would envy.

"However the investigation by TITAN, with the assistance of Merseyside and Strathclyde police, has resulted in their liberty being taken away today in court.

"The significant sentences handed down to the Welshes reflect their role at the top of the tree alongside Amos. They thought they were above the law and beyond the reach of TITAN, even posing in Pablo Escobar t-shirts during an extravagant stag party abroad, paid for with drugs money.

"I am pleased to say that there will be no more fancy holidays abroad for these individuals as they face many, many years in prison for what they have done.

"It should serve as a stark warning to other criminals operating across the North-west and beyond that Titan, as we reach our 1000-mark in prison sentences, will do whatever it takes to put you behind bars."
